Best way to get Sapa from Hanoi

Sapa town is about 38 km from Lao Cai City and about 370 km from Hanoi. To travel from Hanoi to Sapa, you will have many choices such as: motorcycles, night train, sleeper travel bus or even taxi. I would like to advice you two most popular option as below:

Normally the sleeper travel bus service will pick you up at the hotel (if it’s located in Old Quarter) and drive straight to Sapa town. It takes around 5 hours with a short break on the way.

The night train leaves Hanoi every night and arrive Lao Cai city in the next morning. The travel train takes around 8 hours to 9 hours, the train for local takes more than 10 hours with many stops at small stations on the way. After that, you will transfer to Sapa town by shuttle bus service.

Some of you want to get to Sapa by motorbike but I wound not recommend. It is not safe and comfortable. If you really want to experience driving motorbike in Sapa, you should hire one and just drive around the town.

The best seasons to travel Sapa is from September to November or from March to May. Sapa from Sept to Nov has clear sky, cool temperature and dry weather. It is an ideal time to experience the stunning mountain landscape. If you are lucky, you also have chance to watch the harvest days of the golden rice terraces which is around September annually. From March to May, the weather in Sapa is quite warm with a little foggy in the morning. May is the beginning of summer with quick shower occasionally and more sunshine. In this time, Sapa is blossoming with many kind of flowers such as peach and plum flower, and green plants in valleys
